# Requisitions Overview

A Requisition is a formal request to begin a hiring process.

While a Hiring Plan describes an organization’s broader recruitment intentions, a Requisition represents a specific hiring need that is ready to move forward.

A Requisition can contain the operational information required to request a hire, such as the position, department, location, headcount, owner, salary range, and business justification.

Depending on your organization’s configuration, the Requisition can then be submitted through an Approval Workflow before recruitment proceeds.

For higher-level recruitment planning, see Hiring Plans. \
For information about approval processes, see Approval Workflows.

**Hiring Plan and Requisition relationship**

A Requisition can be associated with a Hiring Plan.

*For example, an annual Hiring Plan may identify the need for additional employees in the Customer Service department. When the organization is ready to begin hiring, one or more Requisitions can be created against that plan.*

This provides a clear distinction between:

Planning – represented by the Hiring Plan.

Requesting the hire – represented by the Requisition.

A Hiring Plan may therefore contain multiple Requisitions created at different times.
